I'm working in Washington, D.C., for a couple days this week. I had a meeting planned with some Congressional staffers, so I dressed to impress: gray wool suit, my best black lace-up dress shoes, a crisp white shirt (I ironed it myself), and a nice floral-patterned red tie.
As I waited for the elevator to take me to the hotel lobby, a man and his 8- or 9-year-old son, obviously on vacation in shorts and t-shirts and sandals, arrived to wait for the elevator.
The father looked at me, then looked down at the son and pointed at me: "There's a man who knows how to dress to earn some serious money."
I'm not sure I'm making serious money yet, but I'm glad I look the part. What a great way to start the day.
