Enough with the records

So we've been in Maryland almost a year, and in that time we've been treated to several records.

The record winter, with more than 50 inches of snow (I believe we shovelled every flake at least once). Snowmaggedon...yep, I remember it fondly.

Then a record allergy season this spring that continues through the summer, with pollen counts higher than the crowd after a Grateful Dead show (we've got enough sniffles and sneezes in our family to consider hiring an in-house immunologist).

And now, this week, a record heat wave -- 106 degrees yesterday with high humidity (I never minded living in an oven in Las Vegas -- but the steam oven here is a bit much). I went to Scout Camp with Colin and Carson and it was 99 degrees with humidity above 80 percent. Truly disgusting weather.

So, Maryland, I get it. You evidently thought I was taking you lightly, after living in cold and snowy Idaho and hot and dry Las Vegas. So you've rolled out the records to impress me. From the white blankets of snow to the golden blankets of pollen to the now dusty brown blankets from what used to be our yard (we've had a record dry-spell, too, after the record moisture of last fall and winter), you have shown me what you can do.

I'm impressed. Thank you very much.

Now knock it off.
